Phoenix motorcycle accident lawyers alert—A dump truck hit a group of motorcycle rides near the Carefree Highway.
Phoenix, AZ – A group of motorcyclists who were trying to take advantage of the nice weather, had their joy ride cut short when a sanitation truck plowed into the pack of bikers, fatally injuring three people. Six others sustained critical injuries during the Thursday, March 25, 2010 wreck, which occurred around 1:00 p.m. near 27th Drive and Carefree Highway in north Phoenix, as reported by ABC15.
The Phoenix Fire Department reported a pack of motorcycle riders were at a stop light when they were suddenly hit from behind by a sanitation truck, which pushed and dragged three bikers 50 to 75 yards. Witness reported seeing some of the motorcycles erupt into flames under the dump truck, as others were tossed behind the truck. A total of eight riders were involved in the horrific wreck. Three riders were trapped under the truck and were tragically killed as a result. Four males and two females, which also included a Phoenix fire captain, sustained serious injuries and were flown to Valley area hospitals for treatment. The off-duty Phoenix Fire Captain, Ernie Lizarraga, was flown to St. Joseph’s Hospital. They are all reportedly in critical condition. The drivers of the other three vehicles involved in the crash were uninjured.
The driver of the Blue Sky sanitation truck, Luis Sanudio, 50, was uninjured in the crash and did not show any signs of impairment. Sanudio is currently being questioned by police officials.
The Daisy Mountain, Peoria and Phoenix fire departments also responded to the accident scene. A full investigation is underway at this time.
