Legal news for California medical malpractice attorneys. A petition is asking for the suspension of Michael Jackson’s former doctor’s medical license.
The California attorney general is requesting that the medical license of Michael Jackson’s former doctor to be suspended while he faces involuntary manslaughter charges.
Los Angeles, CA—On Tuesday, March 23, 2010, the California attorney general, Jerry Brown, filed a petition in the Los Angeles Superior Court to keep Michael Jackson’s former doctor from practicing medicine while he is facing charges for the pop stars death. The petition was filed on behalf of the California Medical Board, as reported by MSNBC.
The petition is asking a judge to restrict the medical licenses of Dr. Conrad Murray while he is out on bail for involuntary manslaughter charges. The petition read, “(The) Defendant is alleged to have administered a lethal dose of propofol and other powerful drugs to patient M.J., which resulted in the patient’s death… The exercise of such poor professional judgment and placing the life of a patient in jeopardy requires that the (California Medical) Board take measures to protect the public from future harm.”
Murray was Michael Jackson’s personal doctor before he tragically died on June 25, 2009. Murray was hired to care for Jackson while he rehearsed and prepared for a comeback concert series. He admitted to investigators that he had given the pop singer a powerful anesthetic called propofol and other potent drugs to put him to sleep. Propofol is generally used to put patients to sleep who are undergoing surgery. Murray has pleaded not guilty and is out on a $75,000 bail. Murray’s defense lawyers contend that he did nothing wrong and he wasn’t the first doctor to give the singer the powerful anesthetic.
A request by Los Angeles prosecutors to suspend Murray’s licenses was rejected, but the court barred him from using anesthesia on his patients.
