NY mother of girl who was stabbed by schoolmate says bus company should have intervened.
Queens, NY (www.NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – The mother of a kindergartener filed suit against a Staten Island bus company on Thursday, May 1, 2010, for failing to intervene in her daughter’s stabbing from another student with a protractor, as reported by New York Daily News.
Samantha Lowe claims her five-year-old daughter, who is enrolled in Public School 75’s special education program, was stabbed 10 times in the thigh with the sharp point a protractor by a fellow student on November 2, 2009. The bus was en route to her Ridgewood elementary school.
The little girl was later treated by a pediatrician for puncture wounds.
The mother claims she did not find out about the incident on the bus or the child’s injuries until the school day was over. It was not until a school nurse informed her she had treated the girl’s wounds that she heard anything of the event.
According to the suit filed in Queens Supreme Court, the Amboy Bus company and the city education department were negligent in that they failed to prevent five-year-old Ayannah’s injuries.
