Miamisburg, OH—A single-engine plane crashed in close proximity to the Dayton-Wright Brothers Airport on Thursday, April 1, 2010, killing two of the aircraft’s occupants. The deadly aviation accident occurred in Warren County, Ohio, according to information provided by the Dayton Daily News.

According to Rich Fox, of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) control tower at Dayton International Airport, the fiery aviation accident occurred at approximately 12:55 p.m. at the south end of the Dayton-Wright Brothers Airport runway, near Ohio State Route 741. According to witness Sue Hilinski, who was traveling on SR 741, in the view of the airport, when the plane crash occurred, “It was awful. I didn’t think I was watching an accident happen… The left wing hit the ground. It toppled over. As soon as the body of the plane hit the ground, it exploded into flames.” Other witnesses at the scene reportedly alleged the Beechcraft Bonanza plane appeared to have experienced a mechanical problem before going down and catching fire, according to Miami Twp. Police Maj. John DiPietro.

Upon impact of the crash, black smoke could apparently be seen rising approximately 200 feet into the sky. The plane was charred and completely destroyed in the plane wreck. According to updated reports by Fox 19, a father and daughter were the only people aboard the aircraft at the time. They were identified as Thomas Hausfeld and 21-year-old Kacie Hausfeld. Authorities from Miamisburg, Miami Twp., Springboro, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the Dayton post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OHSP) were responded to the aviation accident scene. Officials from the Federal Aviation Administration are expected to probe the fatal airplane crash.
