Esteban Bahena was fatally struck by a motorist while responding to as accident on Thursday, April 1, 210 on the rain-soaked State Route 163, as reported by NBC San Diego.
Around 7:00 a.m. Bahena and his partner reportedly pulled over on northbound SR-163 just south of Robinson Avenue to help a stranded driver. While they were helping the distressed motorist, another accident occurred nearby when a pickup truck and a Toyota Scion crashed. As Bahena crossed over the highway to place flares around the accident scene to alert motorist of the collision, he was struck by a passing Chrysler Sebring. Bahena’s partner rushed over and immediately began CPR until a nearby fire crew arrived at the scene. He was then loaded up in his own ambulance and was rushed to Mercy Hospital for treatment. At 8:31 a.m., the EMT was pronounced dead by attending medical professionals.
