Chicago, IL—A motor vehicle collision (MVC) involving an unmarked cop car and a sport utility vehicle, which had been previously involved in a police chase, left two police deputies and three civilians injured. The accident occurred on Chicago’s Far South Side on Wednesday, April 7, 2010, according to information provided by the Chicago Sun-Times.
Reports stated a police chase was initiated based on allegations that a man impersonated an Indiana utility worker. Hammond City Police Department officials began their pursuit at an undisclosed location in Hammond, Indiana but ended stopped tracking the suspect at 134th and Green Bay. However, the suspect continued on its escape route, eventually becoming involved in a two-vehicle collision with an undercover police car at 119th and Torrence.
The suspect and driver of the SUV ran away after the crash, though three passengers in his vehicle, including a child, suffered injuries and remained at the scene. Emergency medical services (EMS) personnel responded to the SUV-involved crash scene to transport the three injured civilians and two injured Chicago Police Department (CPD) officials to area hospitals to be treated by doctors and nurses. Luckily, none of the accident victims suffered any serious injuries in the accident. According to Fire Media Affairs spokesperson Richard Rosado, the occupants of both vehicles involved appeared to have sustained minor bumps and bruises in the wreck.
It was not stated whether the suspect has been apprehended as of yet, though a full investigation into the crash was expected to be underway.
