Grosse Tete, LA—A fiery multiple 18-wheeler wreck occurred at mile marker 140 on Interstate 10 in close proximity to Grosse Tete, Louisiana and resulted in four fatalities on Friday, April 9, 2010. The deadly motor vehicle collision, which included three tractor-trailers and a small sport utility vehicle, happened at approximately 5 a.m., according to information provided by WAFB.com.

Louisiana State Police (LSP) authorities reported an 18-wheeler was traveling eastbound on I-10 when it violently brushed against the side of another tractor-trailer. The unidentified driver subsequently lost control of his semi-truck, sending him careening across the median and into the westbound lanes of the interstate. Upon entering the westbound lanes, the 18-wheeler came into the path of a third semi, colliding with it head-on and causing the trucks to burst into flames. A small SUV was reportedly involved in the crash as well; however, LSP officials did not notice the vehicle until after the fire had been extinguished.

Emergency medical services (EMS) crews responded to the scene of the 18-wheeler collision, though four people tragically succumbed to their severe injuries at the scene. A 15-year-old girl, who was also unidentified by authorities, was reportedly seated in the sleeper of one of the semi-trucks when the fatal accident occurred. The shaken teen was transported to the hospital after the incident to be treated for her undisclosed injuries. LSP authorities are expected to conduct a full probe into the fatal 18-wheeler crash.
