Legal News for Product Liability Attorneys. Approximately 4,500 children’s snowsuits and coats, sold under the brand name Deux par Deux, have been recalled.

News for product liability attorneys: The CPSC announced a defective product recall, which was prompted by the strangulation hazards associated with drawstrings.

Washington, DC– Deux par Deux Minimome Inc., based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, has participated in the voluntary recall of about 4,500 children’s snowsuits and coats with drawstrings due to strangulation hazards associated with them. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) http://www.cpsc.gov announced the product safety recall on Tuesday, April 13, 2010.

Although the firm has yet to receive any incident or injury reports with regard to the defective children’s snowsuits and coats, “The snowsuits and coats have drawstrings through the hood that can pose a strangulation hazard to children.” The CPSC also noted, “In February 1996, CPSC issued guidelines (which were incorporated into an industry voluntary standard in 1997) to help prevent children from strangling or getting entangled on the neck and waist drawstrings in upper garments, such as jackets and sweatshirts.”

The recalled children’s snowsuits and coats, which came in sizes 2 through 12, were sold in small boutiques throughout the United Stated from 2005 to 2010. The clothing was sold in several different prints and colors. “Deux par Deux” and the product’s style number are reportedly printed on the neck tag of the recalled attire. The hazardous snowsuits were priced at approximately $190, while the coats cost about $120.
