Legal news for product liability attorneys. Eastwind Industries Kuuma IR Stow and Go Grills recalled over safety concerns.
Product liability attorneys alert- Barbecue grills were recalled by the CPSC over fire hazards.
San Francisco, CA—The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) http://www.cpsc.gov/ and Eastwind Industries Inc., of San Leandro, Calif., have announced a voluntary recall of Kuuma IR Stow and Go Grills due to the fire hazard they pose. The CPSC announced the recall on Tuesday, April 13, 2010.
Nearly 4,600 stow and go grills were recalled after discovering that if the fuel container is not fully threaded on the regulator during installation, the propane tanks can leak fuel, posing a fire hazard to consumers. At this time the CPSC has received three reports of fires created by the leaking propane tanks, which has resulted in minor burns to the hands. The CPSC stated, “This recall involves Kuuma IR Stow and Go barbecue grills. The rectangle grill is stainless steel with the word ‘Kuuma’ embossed on the front. The grill’s main housing measures 18 ½ inches long x 8 ½ inches tall x 10 inches deep. Model number 83726 is printed on the barcode label affixed to the packaging.”
The grills were sold for between $100 and $140 at West Marine stores nationwide from January 2009 through August 2009. Consumers who have purchased the recalled grills are advised to stop using them immediately and contact Eastwind to receive a new operator’s manual with revised graphic installation instructions.
For further information, consumers are asked to contact Eastwind Industries toll-free at (866) 995-8862 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. PT Monday through Friday, or visit their Web site at www.kuumaproducts.com.
