FDA announces New York recall for Green Land’s “Nut Tree Health Mix.”

Oakland Garden, NY (www.NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – On Friday, April 16, 2010, New York State Agriculture Commissioner Patrick Hooker reported to consumers that Green Land has issued a voluntary recall of “Nut Tree Health Mix,” as reported by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) www.fda.gov.

The product apparently contains undeclared sulfites, which, if consumed, may pose serious or life-threatening reactions to those with sensitivities.

The “Nut Tree Health Mix” comes in eight ounce, square plastic tubs with the code DATE: SEP 28 10 on the product label. The product was distributed within the metropolitan New York area. The mix is a product of the United States, Turkey and the Phillippines.

The contamination was found during routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets’ food inspectors, followed by product analysis at the New York State Food Laboratory. The tests revealed high levels of sulfites that were not declared on the label.

The consumption of 10 milligrams of sulfites per serving has been reported to cause severe reactions in some people with asthma. Anaphylactic shock could also be a reaction from sulfite sensitive persons.

No illnesses were reported in connection with the “Nut Tree Health Mix” packages.

Consumers who bought the product are advised to return the mix to the place of purchase.
