Florida personal injury attorneys alert- University of Central Florida sorority, Mu Sigma Upsilon, under emergency suspension for allegedly hazing pledges.
Orlando, FL—The University of Central Florida’s (UCF) Greek community is under fire yet again for severe hazing allegations. The Mu Sigma Upsilon sorority is currently under an emergency suspension after a pledge’s mother made a complaint to UCF’s Office of Student Conduct, as reported by Click Orlando.
While UCF’s Greek system prohibits hazing, it does happen and when it does, UCF takes the claims seriously. The report comes just a few days after Local 6 revealed that UCF’s Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity’s chapter was revoked by its national office after a pledge was reportedly beaten so bad with a cane that he could barley walk.
The mother of a Mu Sigma Upsilon pledge alerted school officials on March 23, that the pledges were forced to do 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups and intense “steam room exercises” while a hot shower was running in the bathroom that they were in. The alleged hazing apparently occurred at “various” locations on and off campus, which also included houses that she was taken to and later kicked out of with no transportation to get home.
UCF’s assistant director of Fraternity and Sorority Life, Scott Clark stated in a report to the pledge’s mother that, “I expressed…that theses actions are not tolerated at UCF and that hazing is a serious issue. I read her Florida’s Hazing Law to get my point across that what [her daughter] was experiencing is not right and against the law.”
UCF police did not have any record of any hazing or criminal complaints regarding the incident. The Seminole County Sheriff’s office also stated they were not aware of any ongoing investigations regarding the hazing allegations, due to the lack of the availability of the victims name.
