News for Illinois employment lawyers- OSHA cited a Elk Grove, Illinois company for several workplace safety violations which pose potential safety and health dangers to employees.
Elk Grove, IL—A logistics and freight management solutions company was fined $64,000 for several workplace safety violations. The United States Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) http://www.osha.gov announced the citations and proposed penalties against Elk Grove, Illinois-based Ceva Freight LLC on Monday, April 19, 2010.
OSHA officials reportedly conducted an inspection at Ceva Freight’s Elk Grove facility in January 2010, in which inspectors discovered two serious, two repeat, and two other-than-serious violations at the establishment.
The two serious violations were issued with regard to the company’s alleged failure to guarantee industrial tracks were adequately inspected before use and lack of legible name plates on trucks. OSHA proposed a $10,000 penalty for these violations since they posed serious potential dangers to employees.
OSHA inspectors also cited Ceva Freight LLC for two repeat violations, in which the company reportedly failed to “provide proper load backrest extensions and to take trucks with safety defects out of service”. The administration proposed a $50,000 penalty in connection with these particular workplace safety violations.
Ceva Freight LLC was also fined $4,000 for two other-than-serious violations for their failure to record workplace injuries and illnesses in the proper fashion, on OSHA 300 forms, as well as the company’s failure to provide such forms upon request.
According to OSHA Area Director Diane Turek in Des Plaines, Illinois, “Employees that work with and around powered industrial trucks face serious injury or even death if proper OSHA safety regulations are not followed… Those who ignore these safety regulations are inviting tragedy into the lives of their workers.”
Once Ceva Freight LLC has received notification of the citations, the company has 15 business days to accept the penalties, request an informal meeting with an OSHA area director or contest the citations before the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission.
