Mustang, OK—Authorities from the Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) are bringing alleged safety and health issues at a Mustang-based nursing home to light. The OSDH has found problems with on-site cleanliness, nourishment, and the overall welfare of the elderly residents at the Mustang Manor Assisted Living Center, according to information provided by News9.com.
Reports indicate the Mustang Manor has been cited for numerous unspecified violations of safety and health in the last two years. These issues amounted to an excess of $35,000 in OSDH-issued penalties. Additional citations and proposed fines are expected, based on a February inspection in which the OSDH allegedly discovered 27 nutrition and sanitation-related issues.
Kay Emery reportedly noticed bruises on her 92-year-old mother, a Mustang Manor tenant, and contended residents were being starved at the nursing home. Emery noted, “My mother has lost so much weight, and she’s a small person. She’s maybe not five-foot-foot tall now, and she has lost so much weight her bones are protruding.”
Beyond claims of safety and health hazards at the nursing home, officials from the Mustang Police Department have received complaints of criminal activity at the establishment. According to Mustang Police Capt. Willard James, “We received a call that a resident had actually written checks to an employee of the business and had them cashed to have the money returned to her, and she had not received those funds.” While no charges have been filed with regard to the claims of embezzlement, two suspected nursing home employees were fired.
The OSDH has reportedly given the Mustang Manor 30 days to establish proper nutrition and sanitation procedures and fix remaining problems at the facility.
