San Francisco Bay, CA— About 1,350 2010 26” Epic and 26” Era Bicycles have been voluntarily recalled by both the manufacturer, Specialized Bicycle Components Inc., of Morgan Hill, Calif., and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The recall was prompted by a fall hazard the bicycles pose, as reported by the CPSC.
The recall was announced after finding that the shock absorber mount can break make contact with the wheel spokes. At this time, no incidents or injuries involving the bikes have been reported.
The CPSC stated, “This recall involves alloy seat stays on the following 2010 Specialized 26” Era and 26” Epic bicycles: 2010 Epic Marathon Carbon, 2010 Epic Marathon Frame, 2010 Epic Expert Carbon, 2010 Epic Expert, 2010 Epic Comp Carbon, 2010 Epic Comp, 2010 Era FSR Expert Carb, 2010 Era FSR Expert and 2010 Era FSR Comp.”
The recalled bikes were sold nationwide from September 2009 to October 2009. They were priced between $2,000 and $5,500.
Consumers are advised to immediately discontinue using the bikes, and contact a Specialized dealer for a free repair.
