Middlebury, IN—Rise ‘N Roll Bakery, in cooperation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), recalled 16 ounce jars of “Peanut Butter Spread”. The recall was issued due to the discovery of undeclared egg products, which could pose allergen dangers to consumers. The FDA announced the product safety recall on Thursday, May 20, 2010.
The recalled peanut butter spread was sold throughout Indiana retail stores in 16-ounce jars. The jars did not come affixed with a UPC code. The jars are labeled “Rise ‘N Roll Peanut Butter Spread”.
The food safety recall was issued with regard to heath hazards associated with undeclared eggs. Consumers who have allergies or a food sensitivity to egg products could be subject to suffer a serious or potentially lethal allergic reaction upon ingesting the peanut butter spread.
According to the FDA, “The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the egg-containing product was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of egg. Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the company’s production and the packaging processes. Production of the product was suspended until FDA and the company are certain that the problem has been corrected.”
The company has not received any illness reports in connection with the recalled peanut butter spread.
Consumers who purchased the potentially dangerous peanut butter spread are advised to contact Middlebury-based Rise ‘N Roll Bakery. The company can be reached at (574) 825-4032 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST.
