Indianapolis, IN—A motor vehicle collision (MVC) involving a firefighter’s pickup truck, car, utility pole, and strip club resulted in injuries ranging from minor to fatal. The violent crash occurred on the south side of Indianapolis on Sunday, May 23, 2010, according to information provided by TheIndyChannel.com.
Reports indicated 34-year-old Franklin Township firefighter David Joseph Newsom was traveling along the 2700 block of Madison Avenue when the wreck occurred.
Newsom reportedly lost control of his pickup truck and smashed into another vehicle. On impact, his truck was sent careening into a power pole and then through Club Zeus. A band was playing inside at the time.
Indianapolis fire Capt. Rita Reith stated, “Newsom was seen by a state trooper at Madison and Terrace traveling at a high rate of speed… The state trooper clocked him at about 81 mph.”
Emergency medical services (EMS) crews were seemingly dispatched to the scene after the accident occurred. Members of the band playing at Club Zeus reportedly suffered minor injuries, consisting mostly of lacerations. It was not stated if they were hospitalized.
A woman and two children were occupying the car involved in the 6:30 p.m. motor vehicle accident. They did not suffer any injuries in the collision.
Newsom, on the other hand, suffered traumatic injuries, which eventually proved fatal. According to Reith, “Newsom was ejected from his vehicle (and)… was transported to Wishard Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Newsom, a firefighter and logistics managers for the Indiana Task Force One, is survived by his wife and 2-month-old child.
