Washington, D.C.—Certain Lexus LS sedans are under a temporary sales suspension in the wake of a recent recall. Toyota Motor Corp. announced the suspension and recall on May 24, 2010, which is recalling some 3,8000 vehicles, as reported by Reuters.
The recall involves late model 2009 and some 2010 model year LS 460 and LS600h vehicles in the United States. Toyota reported that the steering wheel in the recalled vehicles might not be able to return to a centered position after maneuvering a tight turn. About 11,500 vehicles were recalled worldwide based on this problem.
The vehicles will need a system change out, which will be done as the Lexus dealers receive the parts. Current recalled vehicle owners will have first priority for the repairs.
By mid-June sales are expected to resume, when models arrive with the required fix.
Until the issue is fixed Toyota have ordered dealers to cease all sales of the affected vehicles.
A Toyota spokesperson stated, “The decision to stop selling the LS is normal procedure if a (recall) remedy is not immediately available for a recall.”
