Columbia MO Construction Accident: Fall kills worker at IBM construction site

Columbia, MO—A workplace accident left a worker dead at the construction site which will soon become the new IBM Technology Service Center. The accident occurred Tuesday morning, May 25, 2010 at 2810 LeMone Industrial Blvd., as reported by the Columbia Daily Tribune.

Larry Embley Jr., Of Paola, Kan., was killed when he fell to his death while working in the building. Authorities have not released specifics about the fatal accident, but they did state that the fall occurred inside the building.

One ambulance and one Columbia Fire Department truck were called to the scene at about 10:11 a.m. Embley was rushed to University Hospital for treatment at about 10:35 a.m. Unfortunately, Embley passed away after arriving at the hospital.

The Columbia Police Department stated that they would not be conducting an investigation into the accident. However, officials with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are conducting an investigation.

The main contractor on the project, Little Dixie Construction Co., claims to be in full compliance with OSHA standards and regulations.

Design Metals of Grain Valley, Mo. reportedly employed Embley at the time.
