Houston, TX—A Humble homeowner got quite the surprise when a small airplane crashed into his home on Thursday afternoon, June 3, 2010. The Cessna airplane crashed around 2:00 p.m., which tore a part of the roof off of a home located in the 1100 block of Howard, as reported by KHOU.

The homeowner, Glen Sykes, was at home at the time of the plane crash. “I was fixin’ to send a fax, and we hear a crash, and I was thinking maybe it was a vehicle hitting the front of the house or something cause the whole house shook,” said Sykes.

Sykes, along with several neighbors rushed outside where they saw two boys pulling the pilot from the wreckage.

Responding emergency medical crews rushed the pilot to a nearby hospital for treatment of a broken nose.

According to officials, the pilot apparent ran out of fuel while on a flight from Odessa to Bush Intercontinental Airport. He apparently tried to turn around a fly towards an empty field, but obviously didn’t make it.

Sykes’ roof as badly damaged in the accident, but fortunately for him, he owns a roof repair business.

It is unknown if the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will conduct an investigation.
