Gainesville TX Gas Explosion: Mexican restaurant blast seriously injured 5

Gainesville, TX— A natural gas explosion at a Gainesville restaurant has left one person in critical condition, and four others in serious condition. Fire officials stated that the explosion occurred at around 4:30 p.m., on Monday, June 7, 2010, inside the kitchen of El Taco Riendo Mexico restaurant at 211 North Weaver Street, as reported by WFAA and the Dallas Morning News.

Gainesville police officials reported that five people were injured in the explosion. Medical helicopters from Dallas airlifted three adults, an 11-year-old girl and a baby boy to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas for treatment of burns. Four of the victims are in serious condition, while the fifth is listed in critical condition. Officials would not state which victim was in critical condition.

Authorities are currently withholding the identities of the victims.

Most of the damage of the blast was contained to the kitchen and the interior of the building.

Officials are currently trying to determine what caused the explosion.
