Northbrook, IL—Crate and Barrel, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada (HC), recalled succulent plant-shaped decorative candles in a pot. The CPSC announced the recall on Tuesday, June 15, 2010, with regard to fire and burn hazard the product may pose.
The product safety recall was initiated after it was discovered that the wax could melt quickly, spill over the pot and subsequently catch fire.
Crate and Barrel, a subsidiary of Euromarket Designs Inc., received one report of wax igniting. The firm has yet to receive any reports of injuries or property damage in connection with the defective candles.
According to the CPSC news release, “This recall involves a set of nine succulent plant-shaped green candles in clay pots that were sold in a black container with a SKU number of 557-806. The SKU numbers are on the bottom of the original packaging.”
The recalled succulent plant-shaped decorative candles in a pot were available for purchase at Crate and Barrel stores and online between February 2010 and April 2010. The product was manufactured in China and valued at approximately $7.
Consumers have been urged to cease use of the potentially dangerous candles and return them to any Crate and Barrel store for a full reimbursement. Individuals who bought the recalled candles through Crate and Barrel’s catalog or online store have been advised to contact the company to find out how to return the product for a full refund as well.
