Ontario, CA—Chicology and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) have voluntarily recalled about 6,200 roll-up blinds over strangulation hazards. The CPSC announced the recall on Tuesday, June 15, 2010, which advises consumers to stop using the product immediately.
The recall was initiated after discovering that strangulations can occur if the lifting loop slide of the slide of the blind and child’s neck becomes stuck on the free-standing loop. Strangulations can also occur if a child places his/her neck between the lifting look and the roll-up blind material.
At this time no injuries or incidents have been reportedly in connection with this product.
The CPSC stated, “This recall involves the French Antique Gold, Zen Moss, Tropic Ginger, and Kansas White roll-up blind models. The roll-up shades are gold, green, tan and white and are made from natural fiber-paper, jute, and polyester.”
The recalled roll-up blinds were sold through online retailers, which included Overstock.com, Bestwindowtreatments.com, Bedbathstore.com, Unbeatablesale.com, Bonton.com, Linensource.com, and Soultions.com. The blinds were sold from April 2006 through March 2010.
Consumers are being asked to stop using the blinds immediately and contact Chicology to receive a free retrofit kit.
