Brownsburg, IN—A 17-year-old who fell from a moving vehicle was pronounced brain dead Wednesday after the incident occurred on Tuesday evening, June 22, 2010. While the accident seemed to have occurred as a joke that went horribly wrong, police continue to investigate, according to information provided by WishTV.com.

Reports indicated the victim, Garrett Wallace, had been setting off fire works while hanging out with a pair of friends Tuesday. As the teens were about to leave, Wallace’s friend Nick Dillinger, 18, started the engine of his vehicle and pretended as if he was about to leave Wallace behind.

According to Brownsburg Police Sgt. Jennifer Pyatt, “The two teens go in the vehicle and began to drive off and Garrett jumped onto the back of the vehicle and at some point when the vehicle went into motion, Garrett fell off.”

Dillinger subsequently called Wallace’s father who began tending to his injured son as they fretfully awaited the arrival of emergency medical services (EMS) personnel. Wallace was then rushed to Methodist Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.

As of Wednesday morning, the Marion County Coroner pronounced Wallace brain dead. While it was not specified if Wallace had already been removed from life support, his distraught parents planned to donate his organs.

Though police seem to believe horseplay, as opposed to the use of a controlled substance, contributed to the fatal incident, toxicology results are pending as the probe continues.
