Baltimore, MD – A Baltimore County officer was injured and hospitalized after confronting the driver of a stolen car in Pikesville on Monday, June 28, 2010, as reported by the Baltimore Sun. The accused thief reportedly struck the officer with the stolen vehicle.
Police reported that an officer spotted a car that had been reported stolen at approximately 4:40 p.m. The officer confronted the driver of the Acura Legend at a 7-Eleven on the corner of Reisertown and Old Milford Mill roads. Upon ordering the driver to stop, the driver hit the officer with the Acura and drove away.
The injured officer was able to get to his car and call for backup. He was transported to Maryland Shock Trauma Center with injuries that were not believed to be life threatening.
Lt. Robert McCullough reported that shots were fired towards the vehicle. The shots hit the vehicle, but not the driver. The driver then drove westbound on Reisertown Road, where he crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a police car patrolling the area. The Acura then crashed into a Buick that was traveling eastbound on Reisertown Road.
The driver, still uninjured, jumped out of the Acura and hopped a fence that landed him on a golf course. McCullough said an officer eventually caught the fleeing suspect and arrested him.
The names of the officer and the suspect were not released.
