Lancaster County PA motorcycle crash: 3 bikes crash into van, killing 5

Penn Township, PA – Three men and two women were killed in a crash between three motorcycles and a taxi van on Sunday, June 27, 2010, as reported by WGAL.com. The bikers were riding Harley Davidsons.

The accident happened at approximately 5 p.m. on Route 72 near Lititz Road.

Police reported three motorcycles carrying two riders each were traveling north along Route 72 when all three bikes crashed into a Harrisburg-based taxi-van. Five riders were pronounced dead at the scene. The sixth rider was listed in critical condition at Lancaster General Hospital, according to the Philadelphia Enquirer.

The van driver was listed in fair condition at the hospital.

Penn Township police Corp. Rodney King said, “This is the worst that I’ve seen. We have had multiple fatalities before, but this is the most I’ve ever had and I’ve been on the job for 20 years.”

Three sides of the van had collision marks. According to King, the front end and both sides at the real wheels showed signs of damage.”

The victims’ names have not been released on account of pending family notification.

Lancaster County investigators are working to find out what happened.
