Mt. Lebanon, PA – A Mount Lebanon woman and her two children were struck by a sport utility vehicle at the intersection of Beadling Road and Washington Road on Monday, June 28, 2010, as reported by WXPI.com.
Police reported Lisa Styles, 36, was jogging on Washington Road with her one-year-old daughter and three-year-old son in a stroller Monday afternoon when the accident occurred.
A Pittsburgh man, Benjamin Cope, 20, reportedly failed to properly stop at the intersection. Upon missing the stop, he crashed into the mother of two and her children.
Officer Aaron Lauth of the Mount Lebanon Police Department explained, “it is a very busy street. There have been studies done questioning whether or not to lower the speed limit on this road. There are a lot of pedestrians; a lot of things come into play with that. It is a state road and it is a main road.”
The children were transported to Children’s Hospital in Lawrenceville. Police reported the children were not seriously injured. The mother was transported to UPMC Mercy with severe head injuries. She was reportedly in critical condition as of Tuesday morning.
Witnesses at the scene said the driver was collapsed on the ground crying after the incident.
No charges have been filed, according to police.
