Warwick, RI – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and I Dolce Inc., dba Roba Dolce, of Warwick, RI issued a recall of Dolce’s 33.8 oz (1 Liter) packages of Roba Dolce Double Chocolate Chunk Gelato. The press release was issued by the FDA on Wednesday, June 30, 2010, and stated the recall is due to the possibility that the product may contain undeclared peanuts.
The FDA warns that people who have allergies to peanuts run the risk of serious or life threatening allergic reactions if they consume the products.
The recalled gelato was distributed through Kroger/Fry’s stores in Arizona and Ohio.
The products are packaged in 33.8 oz. (1 Liter) gold plastic containers. Containers recalled have “Enjoy by 12/10/10, Mfg with pride pl #44-50, Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Sample,” or “Enjoy by 12/10/10, Mfg with pride pl #44-50.” Printed on the bottom.
No illnesses in connection with the recalled products have been reported.
The recall was issued after a peanut-containing product was discovered in a product that did not reveal the presence of peanuts. Subsequent investigation indicates the peanut contamination was caused by a temporary breakdown in the company’s production and packaging process.
Consumers who have purchased the products are urged to return the packages to the place of purchase for a full refund. They can also direct questions to I Dolce Inc. at (877) 743-5286 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., EST.
