Huntersville, NC—Two kids suffered injuries and were hospitalized after crashing a maintenance golf cart into a parked semi-trailer. The accident occurred Monday, July 5, 2010 at a maintenance facility along Ramah Church Road, according to information provided by WSOCTV.com.
Reports indicated three unsupervised boys were occupying a golf cart when it apparently drove under a parked semi-trailer, leaving two of the children injured.
The children, who are related to an unnamed maintenance worker, were at a NorthStone County Club-owned maintenance facility when the incident occurred.
Neighbors noted it is common to see kids utilizing golf carts around the NorthStone community, however it was unknown if they had permission to do so at the time.
Emergency medical services (EMS) personnel rushed an 11-year-old boy, along with an 8-year-old boy, to Carolinas Medical Center after the wreck. A 6-year-old who was riding the maintenance golf cart at the time luckily escaped injury in the crash.
According to Carole Deedrick, a resident who lives in close proximity to the accident scene, “It’s awful… You have to remember that these are kids out for a good time. Not paying attention to what is going on and they have no clue that it is a motor vehicle. It’s dangerous.”
While the unidentified 8-year-old has since been released from the medical center, the 11-year-old victim remained hospitalized. The 11-year-old, whose identity was also undisclosed, reportedly suffered head injuries. It was not specified if the boy sustained a traumatic brain injury (TBI) in the crash.
A full investigation was expected to be underway.
