Fort Worth, TX—A Fort Worth police officer is in critical condition following an accident while pursuing another vehicle on Interstate 30. The 15-year veteran officer was chasing a motorcyclist, who is believed to be connected to a drug house in which the biker was fleeing from, when the accident occurred, as reported by the Star-Telegram.

The pursuit began while officers were conducting surveillance at a house in Mansfield, when officer spotted to two motorcyclists leaving the house. Terry Grishman, a Tarrant County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson said, “We had information there was large amounts of methamphetamines inside this house.” The officers followed the bikers and discovered “one did not have a license plate, so we attempted to effect a traffic stop, and that’s when the pursuit took off,” Grisham said. At some point during the chase, the motorcyclists split up.

The officer began pursing one of the fleeing motorcyclists, when the officer lost control of his vehicle and slammed into a tree on the south side of I-30.

The unidentified police officer was rushed to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, where is listed in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.

A full investigation is underway.
