Detroit, MI—A motor vehicle collision (MVC) involving a semi-truck and sport utility vehicle left two people injured, one critically, on Thursday morning, July 15, 2010. The injurious accident occurred at the intersection of Gratiot Avenue and East McNichols Avenue in Detroit, according to information provided by Click on Detroit.
Reports indicated a 21-year-old motorist was traveling north on Gratiot Avenue when she attempted to make a left turn onto East McNichols Avenue. Upon doing so, she drove into the path of a southbound 18-wheeler.
The tractor-trailer consequently slammed into the passenger side of the turning Chevrolet Blazer SUV, likely causing substantial damage.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene where they were forced to use the Jaws of Life to extricate a 25-year-old passenger from the SUV.
The unidentified passenger reportedly suffered critical injuries and was rushed to St. John Hospital for treatment.
The driver of the SUV reportedly sustained non life-threatening injuries, though it was not specified if she required medical attention after the violent semi-SUV collision.
The driver of the big rig escaped injury in the wreck.
While investigations into the crash continue, police said the SUV driver drove through the intersection just as the light was in the process of turning red.
