Baltimore, MD – A city police officer is suspended with pay as the department investigates a woman’s allegations that he sexually assaulted her during a traffic stop on the week of July 12, 2010, as reported by The Baltimore Sun. Officials at the police department confirmed the suspension Monday, July 19.
The supposed assault occurred either late Friday, July 16, or early Saturday, July 17, according to the woman. She claims the on-duty officer told her she would not be arrested if she performed a sex act.
The officer has not been identified, pending the investigation’s outcome, but was described as a three-year veteran assigned to the Northeastern District.
Sex offense detectives are handling the investigation with oversight from chief of detectives Dean Palmere, as reported by police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.
Guglielmi confirmed that “These allegation are egregious and extremely serious,” and said that investigators are looking into the officer’s past to find whether the two had previously met.
The allegation recalls a case in Anne Arundel County that consisted of a rookie officer fondling an 18-year-old and taking cell phone camera pictures. The officer was stripped of his badge and spent six days in jail for the offense.
That woman, along with another who claimed the same offense from the same officer, received an undisclosed settlement in March 2009.
