Trimper’s RidesOcean City, MD – Engineers are investigating an accident that occurred Thursday, July 22, 2010, at the amusement park Trimper’s Rides that resulted in three children suffering injuries, as reported by ABC2news.com. The children were injured by debris that flew from the Tidal Wave roller coaster.
At approximately 10p.m. Thursday night, three children were waiting in line for the ride when something malfunctioned on the coaster and sent debris flying their way. The kids were transported to the local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
A witness to the accident reported he was standing in line for the ride when he noticed something abnormal. He and his friends reported they thought they saw one of the ride’s cables detach.
Justin Vaughn told reporters, “We heard a pop noise. It came through the building on top, and it looked like it was all falling down. And that’s when everyone ran down the ramp to the bottom.”
A spokesperson for Trimper’s Rides said the family-owned company has an untarnished safety record, and that it intends for that to continue. He also reported Trimper’s decided to bring in the engineers to figure out what happened, and get it up and running again as soon as possible.
The engineers are from the company that build the ride. It is expected to be out of commission for several weeks as inspections take place.
