Provo, UT—The Springville High School football player who was critically injured in an SUV rollover accident in the school’s parking lot has tragically succumbed to his injuries. Just after 3 p.m., on Wednesday, July 28, 2010, the football coaches, players and parents learned that senior linebacker Brandon Curtis had died, as reported by the Desert News.
As previously reported in “Utah SUV Rollover: 4 H.S. Football Players injured while ‘Ripping Donuts,’” Curtis, 18, was with three other teammates in an open-top Jeep, when the driver began “ripping donuts” in the high school’s parking lot. The SUV then overturned, ejecting all four players.
All four players were rushed to the hospital, where Curtis was placed on life support. By late afternoon, two other players identified as Zach Pauckett and Kaleb Cook, were released from the hospital.
“This is a tragedy and loss for Springville High and the community of Springville,” principal John DeGraffenried stated. “We’ve got a group of family, students and friend, who are grieving and trying to work through this loss of a very outstanding young man.”
A full investigation into the fatal rollover accident is underway.
