Brick Township, NJ – A 27-year-old man driving a Chevrolet Suburban on the northbound Garden State Parkway early Friday, July 16, 2010,died after the SUV struck a guard rail and overturned, as reported by the Asbury Park Press.
Authorities reported Jason R. Farber was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident occurred at approximately 5:45 a.m. After the SUV struck the guardrail in the center median, it took out over 500 feet of the metal. After it overturned, it slid down an embankment and struck a tree. The impact partially ejected Farber, according to State Police.
Two northbound lanes were closed after the accident, according to New Jersey Turnpike Authority spokesman Joe Orlando. The lanes reopened at approximately 8:45.
Residual traffic backed up for nine miles beginning at 9 a.m. Delays were finally cleared by 10:20 a.m.
The crash remains under investigation. The cause of the fatal accident remains unknown and police are looking for witnesses and asking for them to come forward. Trooper Chris Salvato can be reached at (732) 441-4550.
It was not mentioned whether Farber was wearing a seatbelt.
