Lake County, IL—A violent head-on collision claimed the life of a 22-year-old and left three others critically injured early Thursday, August 12, 2010. While authorities from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office alleged alcohol and speed contributed to the deadly motor vehicle accident, investigations are pending, according to information provided by the Daily Herald.
Reports indicated a 2003 GMC Envoy sport utility vehicle was traveling east along Grass Lake Road when it veered over the centerline for unknown reasons. Upon doing do, the SUV slammed into the front of a westbound 2000 Mitsubishi in the 27500 block of Grass Lake Rd.
Spring Grove resident Danielle Trevithick, 22, was driving the Mitsubishi at the time. Trevithick unfortunately suffered multiple traumatic injuries, which seemingly proved fatal at the scene. An autopsy was expected to be performed promptly.
Danielle Trevithick’s father, Anthony Trevithick, said his daughter had informed him that she was with friends and would be home later than expected. “She should have been home and we didn’t hear from her. My wife texted her and she didn’t respond.”
“I then woke up and heard the flight for life over the house and turned on my police scanner,” Anthony Trevithick said, noting he subsequently turned on his police scanner, only to find out several emergency medical helicopters had been called the scene of an accident.
“I got nervous and got in the car and drover down there and they identified it was my daughter… She was just an overall great person who would do anything for anyone… She was smiling all the time and living life,” Anthony Trevithick added.
Three people who were riding in the SUV at the time, all of whom remained unidentified pending the notification of family members, were reportedly airlifted to local hospitals after the wreck. Their injuries were described as critical.
While no DUI charges have been filed in connection with the fatal two-vehicle wreck as of yet, Lake County Sheriff’s officials reportedly said alcohol and excessive speed were factors in the accident. Investigations are underway.
