Westchester, IL—Bay Valley Foods, in cooperation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), voluntarily recalled 10.5 oz cans of Chef’s Cupboard Chicken with Rice Soup. The food safety recall was issued on Wednesday, July 28, 2010, after it was discovered that the cans might contain Vegetarian Vegetable soup as opposed to the product printed on the label.
Given that the vegetarian soup contains undeclared egg and wheat, consumers with allergies or food sensitivities to those products run the risk of suffering a severe or potentially lethal allergic reaction, according to the FDA news release.
While no illnesses or adverse effects have been reported in connection with the mislabeled soup, Bay Valley Foods issued the recall after receiving a consumer complaint. The manufacturer also issued a health alert via the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network.
According to the FDA, “The recalled product labeled as Chef’s Cupboard Chicken with Rice Soup is marked with “BEST BY 01 05 12” that can be found on the bottom of the can. Product affected by this recall may have been distributed to Aldi stores nationwide. No other products or brands are affected by this recall.”
For a full reimbursement, consumers may return the mislabeled Chef’s Cupboard Chicken with Rice Soup to any Aldi store. Additionally, consumers with questions or concerns may contact Bay Valley Foods Consumer Response Department at (800) 236-1119 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EDT.
