Medford, OR—A sleepy driver lost control of a tour van, causing a rollover accident, which killed one person and injured two others. A San Francisco-based metal band was on their way home from playing an outdoor concert in Eugene, Ore. when the collision occurred around 5:30 a.m., Monday morning, August 2, 2010, as reported by KCBY 11.
According to state police officials, the van was transporting nine adults who were apart of a metal band and had just finished playing a weekend outdoor concert. The 2003 Chevrolet extended van, which was also pulling a trailer, was traveling southbound on Interstate 5 near Medford, when the driver began to feel drowsy while driving back home.
The driver of the van apparently fell asleep, causing the van to loose control, leave the highway and overturn.
None of the nine people inside the van were wearing seatbelts at the time.
One person was thrown from the cargo area of the van on impact. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Responding emergency crews transported the driver and one passenger by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment.
A full investigation is underway.
