Los Angeles, CA—Plastic surgeon to the stars, Dr. Frank Ryan was tragically killed on Monday, August 16, 2010, when his SUV went off the side of the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH), as reported by the Associated Press.
This tragic accident has highlighted the dangers of texting while driving, as police officials believe the doctor may have been texting to Twittering at the time of the wreck.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), Ryan, 50, was driving his 1995 Jeep Wrangler on the PCH near Malibu when the SUV went off the side of the roadway for unknown reasons. A witness called for help at 4:34 p.m., after seeing the vehicle drive off the cliff. Ryan was killed in the wreck, but his dog, a border collie, survived the wreck. His dog reportedly sustained serious injuries and was take to an animal hospital for treatment.
CHP officer Steve Reid stated, “We haven’t confirmed anything regarding the cause of the collision.” We are “looking into several factors, including texting and Twittering that may have played a role in the accident.”
Apparently, Ryan’s last Twitter post was at 4:10 p.m. PDT, about 30 minutes from when the accident took place. The Twitter post included a picture of his dog looking at the ocean, with the words “Border collie jill surveying the view from atop the sand dune.”
A full investigation is underway.
