Carson, CA—Powertec and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety and Health Administration (CPSC) has voluntarily recalled about 1,000 Leverage Gyms. The CPSC announced the recall on August 17, 2010 over an injury hazard that the gyms pose.
The recall was initiated after discovering that detaching the exercise workbench from the gym set can create instability, resulting in an injury hazard.
The CPSC stated, “This recall involves the Workbench Leverage Gym, 2010 version, which has a lock and load removable bench section opening up the lever area for power exercises such as squats, shrugs and rows. The gym has black upholstery and either a black or yellow frame. The Powertec logo with the Workbench series name is printed on the removable bench. The models affected by this recall are WB-LS10 and WB-LS10-B. . Workbench Levergyms™ with model numbers WB-LS10 and WB-LS10B sold after February 2010 are not affected by this recall.”
The recalled gym sets were sold through fitness equipment dealers across the U.S. and online at www.powertecfitness.com from October 2009 through February 2010. The gym systems sold for about $850.
Consumers are advised to contact Powertec to receive a free repair kit or to schedule a free repair with an authorized dealer. Powertec has contacted all known purchasers of the gym set.
