Philadelphia, PA – On Tuesday, August 24, 2010, a Common Please Judge ordered a man who orchestrated the capture and beating of a man who raped and impregnated his 14-year-old niece to 11 ½ to 32 months of house arrest, according to The Philadelphia Daily News. Following his house arrest, Antwoine Hough will be subject to seven years of probation.
Hough told Judge Harold M. Kane, “I’m just overwhelmed. I didn’t expect that.”
Kane said he wanted the sentence to send a message but wanted Hough, 39, to be able to work to support his family.
Kane explained if everyone took the law into their own hands, “there would be chaos.”
On July 1, 2008, Emmanuel G. Figueroa saw Hough’s niece on the front steps of her Lawndale house and tricked her into following him into his girlfriend’s house next door. He raped her and warned her not to tell anyone. The young girl complied out of fear. The rape was not discovered until four months later, when a doctor told her she was pregnant.
Hough said that when he and his family members found out where Figueroa was staying, and that he was making plans to escape the city, they made their move.
Hough pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, conspiracy and possession of an instrument of a crime.
Hough served 10 years in the Army Reserves and is currently employed at a box manufacturer. He reported the case has taken a financial toll on his family, and that his home is almost in foreclosure.
Hough’s niece is now in therapy. Hough reported that she recently told him she felt responsible for the financial troubles that have accompanied the trial.
He said, “I told her, ‘No, it’s not your fault. This is how we protect our family.’”
