Uncasville, CT – The Connecticut Department of Correction issued an investigation into the apparent suicide of an inmate at the Corrigan-Radgowski Correctional Center in Uncasville on Saturday, August 28, 2010, as reported by The Middletown Press. The suicide is the second within a week for the state, as an inmate at the Hartford Correctional Center took his life on August 21.

According to reports, at approximately 9 p.m., Saturday evening, correctional staff were made aware of an inmate who had tied a bed sheet around his neck. Officers found him with the other end of the sheet tied to the top bunk bed.

The press release issued by the department stated correctional and medical staff immediately initiated emergency and life saving measures. Timothy Savignac, 27, of Central Village, was pronounced dead after arriving at Backus Hospital in Norwich at 10 p.m.

Savignac was being held on a $275,500 bond with a charge of Failure to Appear in the First Degree. He was awaiting trial, and was the only inmate in the cell at that time

The State Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the exact manner and cause of death. The Connecticut State Police and the Department of Correction Security Division are participating in the investigation.

The previous suicide was that of James Ratliff on August 21. He too was the only inmate in the cell upon his death.
