New Jersey motor-vehicle accident: Jeep SUV veers across Route 287, hit by semi

Hanover, NJ – A Bernardsville teenager was listed in critical but stable condition Tuesday, August 24, 2010, after he lost control his Jeep Grand Cherokee and collided with a tractor-trailer on southbound Route 287.

Timothy Grabis, 17, suffered serious internal injuries and was taken to Morristown Memorial Hospital.

According to State Police Detective Brian Polite, Grabis was exiting Route 24 and merging onto Route 287 when he lost control of his vehicle. At approximately 1:41 p.m., the sport utility vehicle veered across several lanes of traffic before it was struck on the driver’s side by a Kenworth tractor-trailer.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured.

Grabis was transported to the hospital by Cedar Knolls emergency crews. An update as to his condition was not made available as of Tuesday evening.

The investigation is ongoing.
