Streetsboro, OH—Step2 Company, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada (HC), voluntarily recalled approximately 63,700 (56,000 in the United States, 7,700 in Canada) Sand and Water Transportation Station Toys due to choking hazards associated with them. The CPSC announced the product safety recall on Tuesday, September 7, 2010.
Step2 recalled the Sand and Water Transportation Station Toys after discovering the plastic wheels on the train cars have the potential to detach. Children who play with the toys run the risk of choking on small parts as a result of the defect. No injuries or adverse events have been reported in connection with the recalled children’s toys as of yet.
According to information provided by the CPSC, “The Step2 ® Sand & Water Transportation Station is a standalone play station for children ages two and up. The toy station consists of: a round blue plastic table, including train tracks, train cars in blue, red and yellow, toy sailboats and a hand rake/shovel. A red Step2 logo decal is on the side of the table. Train cars with grey wheels are not included in this recall.”
The recalled toys were made available for purchase at Target stores, as well as other retailers. The product was sold between December 2008 and June 2010. Prices reportedly ranged from $49 to $59.
Step2 has urged consumers to take the potentially dangerous toys away from children and contact the Ohio-based company to receive complimentary replacement cars.
Step2 can be reached at (800) 347-8372 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. ET, or on the company’s Web site at www.step2.com.
