Taylor, MI—An officer from the Taylor Police Department suffered serious injuries when a vehicle hit him as he was helping a motorist along Interstate 94. The driver of the vehicle involved fled the scene after the Tuesday night, September 7, 2010 crash, according to information provided by WXYZ.com.

Reports indicated an unidentified Taylor Police officer was helping the driver of a disabled vehicle when another car crashed into both the officer and stalled car. The vehicle, which was described as a “possible late 1990s or early 2000 model Ford Crown Victoria, Mercury Grand Marquis or similar model,” subsequently left the scene.

Emergency medical services (EMS) personnel seemingly rushed the injured officer to an area hospital where he/she was listed in serious condition. The driver of the disabled vehicle did not sustain any injuries in the hit-and-run crash.

Investigators seem to believe the hit-and-run vehicle likely sustained extensive damage to its front and passenger side. That car may also have maroon paint on it as a result of the collision.

The hit-and-run vehicle allegedly continued to travel westbound on I-94 before exiting at U.S. 24, Telegraph Road, after the crash.

Authorities are urging any witnesses or individuals with key information regarding the collision to contact the Taylor Police Department at (734) 287-6611.

Investigations continue.
