Wheeler County, GA—A plane crashed Wednesday morning, September 8, 2010, killing a Douglasville man and injuring another person aboard the aircraft. The fatal aviation accident occurred approximately three miles from the McRae-based Telfair-Wheeler Airport, according to information provided by the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Reports indicated 60-year-old Daniel Joseph Marnell was at the controls of a single-engine Cessna 182 when it went down around 9:30 a.m. The small plane reportedly departed from West Georgia Regional Airport in Carrollton prior to the wreck.

Though emergency medical services (EMS) personnel rushed to the scene, Marnell’s traumatic injuries ostensibly proved fatal on impact. The Douglasville pilot was the managing partner and chief flight instructor for Plane Sense, Inc. and had been flying since 1968.

A pilot aboard the aircraft, 63-year-old Joseph Thomas Vance, was transported to the Macon-based Medical Center of Central Georgia. The extent of his injuries were not immediately known.

Officials from the Wheeler County Sheriff’s Office, as well as Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are expected to conduct a full investigation into the deadly Georgia plane crash.
