Logan, UT— A fiery multi-vehicle collision sent two people to the hospital and ignited a blaze as diesel fuel leaked from a wrecked semi-truck. The eight-vehicle crash occurred on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 around 6:30 p.m., at the intersection of 1200 South and State Road 165 in Providence, as reported by the Salt Lake Tribune.

The Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) reported that a semi truck allegedly ran a red traffic light, hitting two cars, which caused subsequent collisions. The semi then slammed into a power pole and an electrical transformer, before turning on its side in the eastbound lanes and catching fire. Seven cars in total were involved in the wreck.

The driver of the semi managed to escape before the fire ignited.

The driver of the semi and one of the cars were transported to Logan Regional Medical Center for treatment. The driver of the car is reportedly in fair condition with rib and pelvic injuries.

Logan Fire Department officials reported that 200 to 300 gallons of diesel fuel leaked from the tractor-trailer. The crash also caused a localized power outage.

A full investigation is underway.
