Austin, TX—A school bus’ abrupt stop injured 11 children Wednesday morning, September 22, 2010. The school bus made the sudden stop on the way to Hillcrest Elementary School on William Cannon Drive, which jolted the children around the bus, as reported by KVUE.

Police officials reported the children were riding on bus number 62 on route number 40, when the bus made a sudden, abrupt stop along the way to Hillcrest Elementary School. The children were dropped off at school, where they went to the office to complain about the incident.

Eleven students were then transported to Dell Children’s Medical Center for treatment of their injuries acquired during the incident. A total of 76 students were on the bus at the time.

Responding emergency crews evaluated any student who complained of pain.

The bus driver reportedly continued on to his second route after dropping off the students at the elementary school. The drive picked up middle school students, and completed the route.

The Austin Police Department and Del Valle ISD are conducting investigations. The bus driver is also being interviewed.

The driver has been taken off route, pending the completion of those investigations.
