Tacoma, WA—The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and D&D Distributing-Wholesale Inc., have voluntarily recalled about 19,000 “Love Tester” Mood Rings and about 4,000 “Love Tester” necklaces. The CPSC announced the recall on September 21, 2010, over high levels of lead the product contains.
The recall was initiated after discovering that the metal rings and necklaces contain excessive levels of lead, which is toxic if it was ingested by young children. Ingesting the lead-containing products can result in adverse health effects.
The CPSC press release stated, “This recall involves a mood necklace which is 18 inches in length and an adjustable ring. The products change colors when the user’s “mood” changes. “Love Tester” and “Are You In the Mood” are labeled on the products’ packaging. The products are sold separately.”
The recalled necklaces and rings were sold at small retail stores across the U.S. from September 2005 through June 2010. The mood rings and necklaces sold for about $4.
Consumers are advised to take the jewelry from children and return them to the place of purchase for a full refund or replacement product.
For more information concerning the recall, consumers can contact D&D Distributing-Wholesale at (800) 262-9435 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. PT Monday through Friday or visit their website at www.dddist.com.
