Tulsa, OK—A two-vehicle collision in Kay County left several people with serous injuries, and one person dead on Friday, September 24, 2010. The injurious collision occurred on Oklahoma 11 and U.S. 77 at around 5:15 p.m., as reported by Tulsa World.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported that a 2007 Dodge pickup truck, driven by Beverly Jean Collyar, 83, of Newkirk, was traveling eastbound on Oklahoma 11, when she failed to stop at a stop sign at the Intersection of U.S. 77. The pickup truck then slammed into the side of a 1988 Dodge Caravan, which was traveling on southbound U.S. 77.
The driver of the van, Verna Jean Stackhouse, 56, and a passenger San Wynford Stackhouse, 30, both of Ponca City, were injured in the wreck. They were both rushed by responding emergency crews to Ponca City Medical Center, where they were airlifted to St. John Medical Center in Tulsa. They were both in critical condition.
Beverly Collyar, her passenger Melvin Collyar, and a second passenger in the van, Gretchen Philina Beasley, 30, of Ponca City, were airlifted to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. They were all in critical condition, suffering from internal and external injuries.
Sadly, Melvin Collyar’s injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead at a Wichita hospital.
Other passengers in the van, Kyann Bell Cato, 4, and Kyle Jean Cato, 2, both of Ponca City were taken to Ponca City Medical Center in good condition. They were treated and released.
No one was wearing his or her seat belts inside the Dodge pickup truck.
A full investigation is underway.
