Toronto, Ontario—Tike Tech Ltd., in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), voluntarily recalled approximately 800 Tike Tech Single City X3 and X3 Sport Jogging Strollers. The CPSC announced the recall on Wednesday, October 6, 2010, after it was discovered that the jogging strollers may pose strangulation hazards.
Children run the risk of strangling if they pass through the opening between the stroller’s grab bar and seat bottom. Children who are not properly strapped in the strollers can maneuver themselves through the opening and “become entrapped at the neck by the grab bar,” according to information provided in the CPSC’s news release.
While no injuries or adverse events have been reported in connection with the defective jogging strollers, the Toronto-based manufacturer seemingly recalled the grab bars on Tike Tech Single City X3 and X3 Sport Jogging Strollers as a safety precaution.
The following ID codes are affected by the product safety recall:
• TT-18-01
• TT-18-02
• TT-18-03
• TT-18-04
• TT-18-05
• TT-18-06
• TT-18-07
The jogging strollers were sold at juvenile product stores nationwide and online at Web sites such as www.amazon.com. The product was made available for purchase from October 2009 to February 2010 and cost about $300.
Consumers have been urged to remove the strollers’ grab bar and contact Tike Tech to find out how to obtain a complimentary replacement grab bar.
Tike Tech can be reached at (800) 296-4602 Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ET, via e-mail at recall@tiketech.com, or online at www.tiketech.com.
